Monsoon in India: Rains advance into Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya; IMD issues warning

Monsoon in India: The south-west monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Indian Metrological Department (IMD) said on Monday. Along with these regions, the monsoon has also advanced into central Arabian sea, Konkan, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, IMD said. It has further advanced into some parts of North Arabian sea and Gujarat region, some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some parts of Marathwada, entire Telangana, some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, most parts of west-central & north Bay of Bengal, said a statement by IMD. “The south-west monsoon has covered the entire Konkan region, including Mumbai. In North Madhya Maharashtra, it has reached up to Pune and Nashik districts. In Marathwada, its reach is restricted to Parbhani district only,” Sunitha Devi, director of IMD, Pune was quoted as saying by PTI. However, the monsoon is yet to cover the rest of Maharashtra, she added. “The conditions are not yet favourable for the monsoon for its further progress. It would take next three-four days to advance towards the north. Hence, the IMD has also not issued any specific alerts or warnings accordingly,” she said.
The IMD also issued warning. The IMD predicted “heavy to very heavy rain” likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya. It predicted “heavy to very heavy” at isolated places with “extremely heavy falls” at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
“Heavy to very heavy at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Coastal Karnataka; heavy at isolated places over SubHimalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, north coastal Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep,” an IMD release said. It further warned about stormy wind reaching 30-40 Kmph gusting to 50 kph would prevail over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next 24 hours.
